What is edible wafer paper?

Edible wafer paper is a delicate, paper-like decorating medium commonly used in luxury cake artistry and sugar work to create sculptural details that would otherwise be impossible with traditional frosting alone. Made primarily from potato starch, water, and vegetable oil, wafer paper is 100% edible, food-safe, and widely used throughout the world of modern cake design.

While completely safe for consumption, wafer paper has very little flavor or sweetness on its own, which is why we typically recommend gently removing the decorative wafer paper pieces before slicing and serving the cake.
